An Update About Lutheran Confessions
Although writing happens when we commit to writing, it’s also true the medium we use matters for our productivity and creativity. A noisy environment or a word processor that distracts from clear writing really ends up playing a role.
Coming to Substack has been a game-changer for Lutheran Confessions. It’s a very clean interface on my end, the author’s end, and I hope it’s also an accessible platform for you, arriving as it does in your inbox as an e-mail or available ad-free on the blog.
A few weeks back I invited Lutheran Confessions readers to complete a simple survey. Basically I asked you what you wanted to read here. Your response was pretty clear. The highest priority among readers were 1) analysis of contemporary events, and 2) explorations in biblical theology.
Taking your response as guide, I’m introducing a publishing pattern to try out. Mondays (or sometimes Tuesdays) will be the contemporary events post, rounding up what’s been happening in the world and the church. May just call it the Monday Roundup. Then Saturday evenings you’ll receive “It’s Sunday Again,” explorations in biblical theology that focus on texts for Sunday worship or periodically other topics.
It’s a blog and I do it for the joy of it so other things can and will happen besides these, but I’d like to try and get a reliable pattern going readers can watch for, a Monday reflection on the news of the world, a Saturday evening reflection on faith grounded in ancient texts.
For paid subscribers, I’m also going to aim for two unique posts per month, likely podcast conversations with authors and strategic insights into church life in 2022. For those who have a paid subscription, I’d certainly love to hear from you on what you’d like to see in that space, and thank you for supporting the blog!
That’s all for today. Happy Tuesday!
p.s. Because I just feel like offering some recommendations but don’t yet have lengthy written analysis of these, I would like to recommend you listen to Arcade Fire’s new album, We, it’s fantastic, and while you’re at it check out Ted Hammig and the Campaign as well. As for television, well the new Rings of Power is very, very good, and if you have Apple TV+, our church and the refugee resettlement agency I founded back in 2015 is featured on their new show, Gutsy. Episode 7. Check it out.
